Mayor Phil Hardberger's Welcome
Mayor Phil Hardberger
San Antonio has become one of the nation’s most popular places to live. As we add people, we must be mindful to set aside green space so that we are good stewards of our South Texas heritage.

In 2007, with overwhelming voter support, the City of San Antonio purchased 311 acres of the former Voelcker Dairy Farm to build a major new urban park. Voelcker Park is a part of our strategy to get back to where we need to be in terms of parks and open space in our city.

Some of the trees on this land were standing at the time of the Battle of the Alamo. To walk among those trees is to know our history.  Now that the park is opening for occasional weekend events, I hope you will come and walk in the shade of its magnificent oak trees.
